After discovering the outdoor life, today we discover the relaxing side of Carinthia, Austria, thanks to the story of Francesca who spent a wonderful weekend at the elegant Hotel Falkensteiner …
But what we had not yet experienced was a holiday relaxing in this beautiful and charming region, easily accessible by car from Northern Italy.
Where to stay in Austria with children: the chain Falkensteiner
For our long weekend of pampering we have chosen the best, or the renowned chain Falkensteiner, which operates several luxury hotels in the Alps. Of these, six facilities are located just in Carinthia.
We have visited two hotels located in Nassfeld, a charming area a few kilometers from the Italian-Austrian border, easily reachable via the Pramollo pass (exit on the A23 Pontefract).
The structure that was the scene of our mini vacation was the Hotel Carinthia a superior four-star resort with Spa which I would recommend highly!
The hotel, built ten years ago, is modern and welcoming. It is a structure quite large (160 rooms and suites), but absolutely well organized. We stayed in a Junior Suite of 47 square meters, with a lovely balcony overlooking the mountains and pool.
The room turned out to be wide enough for the needs of a family of two adults and a six year old with the measurements of a nine-year, thanks to the division between the sleeping area and the living room where the sofa can be easily transformed into a third bed. Bathroom exceptionally large and bright with oversize shower and tub mega (for Lorenzo, a continuation of the pool!).
Although the weather was not the greatest (indeed, just bad for the truth), we had a blast making the big cuddle in wonderful Acquapura Spa, 2,400 square meters of swimming pools, treatment rooms, saunas etc. I must admit that the Spa is so beautiful and unique as to be straconsigliata even (perhaps most importantly) to those traveling without children … Since some of its areas are structured for very romantic couple treatments and, as is traditional Austrian, there is also a nudist area (where of course the children are not allowed).
However, also in Spa activities for children are not lacking at all:
The heated indoor pool, which then continues outside with lots of water games and massage beds, is perfectly accessible to children. Also inside, there is also a lovely baby pool;

Even children can participate in some spa treatments. For the great end of the school I gave to Lorenzo his first professional massage: 30 € for 25-30 minutes of absolute enjoyment everything for him thanks to the talented Thomas! His little face satisfied and relaxed is worth every single euro spent!

If mom and dad are engaged in wellness little children friendly, there is a baby club. The entertaining assistants and the mascot of the group, Falky, will entertain children with games, slides and other activities.
Another point in favor, then, for catering. A buffet breakfast mega, with many natural products well classified to meet those who have needs, special diets or intolerances.

A free snack at 15.30 with salads, pasta dishes and fast homemade cake between a massage and a dip in the pool before moving on to dinner with four courses selected.
In all this, menus from Falky, coloring books and crayons for younger guests. The only drawback, drinks are not included and should be paid for separately.
After Carinthia, we visited the facility “twin” Sonnenalpe, located a few meters from the Italian-Austrian border.
If the Carinthia is a very luxurious resort and attention to detail, the Sonnenalpe wins the trophy of the hotel ideal for families with children! For a future stay (maybe winter), we made the show family rooms. Very spacious, they are of two types: some have a separate room with two bunk beds in semi for children, others have instead a Latvian mega four squares, ideal for a sleepover parents and puppies!

Some facilities for the young travelers:
A mini sink height of dwarf in all family rooms;

A portion of the buffet for children, again accessible to them, with simple food and welcome (pasta, vegetables, potatoes, ice cream, …) and drinks always included;
A mini club delicious suitable for both children, with relaxation areas and even a mini cinema, that the older ones, with video games, soccer etc;
The animation with lots of Falky Falky dance twice a week;

(Hear hear) access to the Spa for children, limited to certain times;
A beautiful swimming pool with areas dedicated to families.
Two other important points for both facilities:
The free wifi (actually, at least in Carinthia, excellent public areas, weaker and discontinuous Room)
The opportunity to earn 500 miles of the Miles & More program of Lufthansa for each stay at the hotels in the chain Falkensteiner.

What to do in the area with children
And what can I tell you about the area, in addition to what has already told Milly?
As I already mentioned, thanks to the beauty and comfort of our hotel and fluffy time, we shot very little.
But just a ray of sun appeared between the clouds we hurried to take the funicular Millennium Express to tour (actually, two) on the legendary Pendolino, a slide of 2.2 km high speed that drops 400 meters with lovely views over the valley and the mountains. The little ones can go up with the parents.
Other nearby attractions:
Terra Mystica a visit to a mine where children can make a treasure hunt for precious stones;
Minimundus, with the reconstruction of the main monuments in the world and a system of mini trains fully functional;
Trekking routes suitable for families;
Bike lanes in the beauty of the primary level;
Countless playgrounds themed (but this will tell you the best friend Mary Blog Playground Around the Corner
In short, we have to plan our winter holiday with Falkensteiner!
