Vacation in Mykonos and small Cyclades, including mervigliosa Koufonissi: Serena today tells us the wonder in front of a heavenly sea in these famous Greek islands …
The many islands that make up Greece, one of the Cyclades is undoubtedly the best-known: more than two hundred islands arranged in a circle around the sacred Delos, birthplace of one of the most important civilizations of the Mediterranean and is still able to exercise magnetic appeal.
We have long dreamed of visiting these places for the promising combination of nature and culture that characterizes them.
Until it was the right time and we started planning our tour. Our idea was not in fact to make a stop on one island but to shoot as much as possible, to try to capture the best the true spirit of this corner of the Mediterranean.
Meridiana flight took us from Milan at Mykonos airport, where waiting for us was a friendly staff member of ‘Hotel Hibiscus, after having accompanied us to store luggage, led us to a car rental to take over our midst … a comfortable 150 cc scooter, ideal to bring the three of us “holiday” for a stroll on the island. Let’s say that here, once handed the helmet to all, are quite elastic interpretation of the rules of the road! ?
Wasting no time, we rode our trusty steed in search of the sea and beaches. Upon the recommendation of the owner of the hotel, we stopped in Cape Psaru, crescent of soft white sand, overlooking the blue Aegean. Although the water was really cold, we could not help but give us a first dive and, thereafter, a first lunch, “the Greek.” Behind the beach, a set of white buildings, surrounded by dense scrub, made us fall immediately in typical Cycladic style, dominated by smooth lines of whitewashed buildings that stand out against the background of the clear summer sky.
The scents of the Mediterranean vegetation and profiles of Byzantine churches, immersed in the countryside, we have company on the way to the hotel where we waited for the show’s most anticipated of the day: the famous sunset of the Cyclades.
The evening ended in Mykonos Town, where we admired the mills, the Little Venice (the entertainment district overlooking the sea), the narrow streets overflowing with trendy shops and heterogeneous tourists, each searching for his own amusement.
The next morning, after having filled the eyes of the magnificent views enjoyed from our hotel, we went to the port, at a time of our second stop on Naxos, where we made the basis for ten days because of all was the one that offered the greatest number of sandy beaches, ideal for our baby. But I speak here of Naxos> Naxos with children
In preparation of the trip, reading guides and sites, my attention was completely enraptured by the image of a lagoon, located in Koufonissi, in the small Cyclades.
Luck had it that this little paradise was easily accessible from Naxos. Upon arriving on the island, we promptly proceeded to plan the trip, by booking tickets for the boat that would take us to the discovery of these remotest islands in the Aegean.
The first leg of the trip was the island of Iraklia. A small marina from the clear, a handful of white houses and blue, a beach and a little more. In an hour’s stop we had time to freshen up in these beautiful waters and stroll through the tiny urban core, seeking views to photograph.
Climbed back on the boat, in a short time we landed on Koufonissi. The deep blue sea, in stark contrast with the whiteness of the coast made us fall in love immediately. On this island there are very few facilities, a few bars, a bike and a dusty bus that takes tourists to the beaches.
The lagoon Pori is the goal that we tried to conquer fatigue, under a blinding sun. Fortunately, taking advantage of the only means available, we were able to spare us part of the way and reached the east coast of the superlative white beaches, for a moment we waver in our resolve. But after a few invigorating dip we felt ready to take on our journey.
Our effort has been amply rewarded by the view that opened before our eyes, as soon as we arrived near the lagoon. The thrill of being in front of such a spectacle of nature and the intensity of the colors of the sea made us forget the long road traveled. We treated ourselves to a long swim in these waters wonderful, happy to have found a real paradise.
When, in the evening, we took the sea route to return to Naxos, I reworked the mind images of the day and I could not help but think that in this fantastic place I should absolutely go back!
After 10 days in Naxos (which I will talk soon), we returned to Mykonos, where we would be allocated. As happened in the first leg, we decided to stay again at the Hotel Hibiscus for not having to run wildly between a half and the other. To round off our tour in the Cyclades, we hired a quad, fun means by which to spend the last hours of vacation.
This archipelago, despite being well-known and popular, retains an authentic charm and corners still wild and unspoiled.
Certainly one trip is not enough to know the many treasures that this area has to offer. We leave satisfied with what we have seen and the good experiences that we could live, but at the same time eager to return.
